ASAC - The Academic Society of the Altaic Communities

The main purpose of the series of symposiums organized by ASAC is to discuss the history, culture, and civilizational values of the Altaic peoples that have shaped Eurasia and to present these values comparatively.

Following the first two local meetings of ASAC in Bishkek, the Third Altay Communities Symposium was held on July 18-19, 2011, in Istanbul, under the theme ‘The Migrations and Emergence of Nations of the Altay Communities‘.

The Fourth Altay Communities Symposium, on the ‘Cultural and Economic Dimensions of the Silk Road,’ was held from 11 to 12 June 2013 in Seoul, the capital of Korea.

The Fifth Altay Communities Symposium was held in Antalya on 20-22 July 2015. ‘Religion and Belief Rituals – Language and History Issues‘ were discussed in the symposium. The papers presented at this symposium were published in three volumes according to their subjects.

The Sixth Altay Communities Symposium was held in Istanbul on 24-26 July 2017 with the participation of 230 scientists. The subject of this symposium was ‘Dwelling and Dwelling Culture, Family, and Family Values‘ among Altay peoples. The papers presented at this symposium were published in two volumes according to their subjects.

The Seventh International Symposium on ‘Traditions-Customs-Traditions and Laws‘ of the Altay peoples was held in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, on 6-10 August 2018.

The Eighth International Altay Symposium on ‘Animals and Livestock‘ was held from 19 to 23 August 2019 in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, and Cholpon-Ata under the auspices of the Kyrgyz Presidency.

The Ninth Altay Communities Symposium on ‘Epics and Epic Culture‘ among Altaic peoples was held on September 27-30, 2021 in Bursa, Turkey. 

The Tenth Altay Communities Symposium, on ‘Food and Nutrition Culture‘ among Altaic Peoples, was held from 27 to 30 September 2022 in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. 

The Eleventh Altay Communities Symposium was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on July 4-7, 2023 on the subject of ‘Place and Water Names‘ in Altaic peoples.

The Twelfth symposium was held in Taipei, Taiwan, on September 25-27, 2024, under the theme ‘Clothing culture‘ among Altaic peoples.

The Altay Communities Symposium is, in principle, held every two years. However, due to the high interest and appreciation shown by various countries and institutions, the symposium can also be held annually.
